What to charge for bin-to-curb service

Updated October 17, 2026. Prices below are examples, not a BinBoss rate.

BinBoss does not set what a kid charges a neighbor, and it does not take a percent of that money. The app subscription, if you pay one after the beta, is separate. This page is how to pick a fair price for moving cans to the curb and back.

Pick the unit before the number

Write down the job, then the price. The usual choices:

  • Per collection week, per house. One price covers that house on its pickup week. Easiest to explain.
  • Per can. Useful when one house has two or three carts and the next has one.
  • Out only, or out and back. Two trips is more walking. Price it as more work than a single trip.

Also note the walk. A can already at the end of a short driveway is less work than a can behind a gate, up a step, or down a hill. If a stop is harder, charge more or skip it. Do not use one flat price and then resent the hard house.

A sample you fill in

This is arithmetic, not a market study. Replace the numbers with yours.

  • You choose $4 for one house, once each collection week, for two cans, out and back.
  • That house pays $4 on a week the truck comes.
  • Three houses at that same price are $12 that week.
  • If the truck comes every week, three houses at $4 are $12 a week. If it comes every other week, plan on the weeks it actually comes.

If $4 feels low once you have walked the cans, raise it before you promise a season of stops. If a neighbor you know can only pay less, you can say no or offer out-only. A kid business can have a small route. It does not need every house.

Prices other services publish

These are prices those businesses post on their own sites, checked October 17, 2026. They are not an average, not a BinBoss recommendation, and not proof of what your street will pay. Neighborhoods and what is included differ.

  • Preston Can Crew posts $5 a week for a kid-led crew to roll bins to the curb and back on a set weekday pair.
  • Calvin’s Curb Crew posts $25 a month for weekly roll-out and return, run by a kid with a parent close by.
  • ICAN posts can-to-curb service from $25 a month.
  • QuidKids, a UK guide for a kids’ bin round, lists a starter of £1–£3 a week for putting bins out and bringing them back for households the family knows.

Adult valet companies sometimes post higher monthly prices because they cover a wider area, more cans, or extra tasks. Use them as context, not as the number a child should copy.

Washing cans is a different price

Some people search “trash can business” and mean scrubbing or pressure-washing bins. That uses supplies and makes a mess. Do not quote a wash price for a roll-to-the-curb job, and do not quote a roll price for a wash. If you are only moving cans, say so on the flyer.

What the kid keeps

Neighbors pay the kid. BinBoss does not add a fee on top and does not keep a share. Cash can sit with the parent until it is counted. Online payments, if you turn them on later, can include a card processor’s own fee. That processor fee is not a BinBoss percent.

The app’s own prices are on the pricing section. During the Founding Boss beta, Pro features are free. After the beta, Free is $0 for one kid and up to 6 customers. Those are subscription prices, not neighbor prices.
